Menstrual Experiences of College Women


Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to understand menstrual experience of college women. The subjects were thirty college women, data collecting method was the depth interview with an open questionnaire. Results were as follows.
The responses of menarch were grouped into 5 categories: `bewilderment¢¥, `unconcern¢¥, `fear¢¥, `pleasure¢¥, `shyness¢¥.
The attitudes about menstruation were grouped into 2 categories: `acceptable attitude¢¥ including `natural¢¥, `positive accept¢¥, `privilege¢¥ & `negative attitude¢¥ including `injustice¢¥, ¢¥uncomfortable¢¥.
Menstrual problems may well not be inevitanle. Premenstrual syndrom were physical symptom including `pain¢¥, `fatigue¢¥, `skin trouble¢¥ and psychological symptom including `anxiety¢¥, `displeasure¢¥, ¢¥oversensitiveness¢¥. Menstrual syndrom were physical symptom including `pain¢¥, `change of safety¢¥ and psychological symptom including `nervous¢¥, `uncomfortable¢¥, `depression¢¥. Postmenstrual response was `sense of freedom¢¥.
Thr responses of irregular menstrual cycle were grouped into 5 categories: `worry¢¥, `anxiety¢¥, `fear¢¥, `unconcern¢¥, `safety¢¥.
To let women take their menstrual experience as a part of their lives forming a positive sense of feminine identity, it needs qualified teaching and fostering of the positive environ-ment toward menstruation.
